Cole is here!

At about 2:15 I got a call at drill. Taitum was going back into the doctor, but she told me not to leave yet. So when I got another call just after 3 telling me that she would be having a c-section at 5 I didn't have a whole lot of time to spare. I was already talking to the commander and when I told him he said, "So what are you still doing here!" I ran to the car and drove on the freeway to Riverside instead of going through Preston. I don't know if it saved time or not, but I got to the hospital at 4:50, hurried up to Labor and Delivery and got changed into scrubs. I didn't get to see Mia born because they had to knock Taitum completely out for that c-section, but they did a spinal block this time instead of an epidural (although the procedure looked pretty much the same to me), and it worked well. I got to be in there the whole time. As they started the cutting Taitum looked extra pale. It worried me, but I didn't tell her until after the whole thing was over and she was back to her regular version of pale. Cole was pretty much screaming from the moment he came out. He measured 19 inches and weighed 5 pounds 8 ounces. He seemed huge to me compared to his sister when she was born. It is amazing what a difference a couple inches and a little more than a pound make. Cole was struggling to keep his oxygen levels high enough without assistance so they ended up putting him in the NICU for now. He may have the beginnings of pneumonia or just a slight case of respiratory distress, but I am not worried at this point. They are treating him for both. I just hope he is able to be weened off the nasal tube soon so his mom can hold him. His sister did get to see him through a window and seems to approve, but I don't know if she really understands it all yet. Well I will update this once I have an update on him.
